No argument from me on that score. But I guess I’m coming from a much different perspective. Outdoor recreation in the backcountry is a sublime form of social distancing, and the residents of Telluride got after it, there were no doubt hundreds of people skiing in the backcountry the day of the accident. Accidents happen. These guys were experienced and well-equipped. In hindsight it was very stupid and put a lot of people in danger, not so much the rescue operation, those happen all the time in the backcountry, but the virus. This is all something no human has ever experienced save for the really old people who were children in 1918. It was a shitty mistake, but I’m not going to pillory the parties involved because I know deep down the desire to do such things.

Or, I’m talking out of my ass and need to shut the fuck up and we need to put the victim up to a firing squad.

The elephant in the room is that those guides are probably fucked because of lack of income, and were desperate to make money. Furthermore, as you noted, there is literally no part of this situation that violated any stay at home order. The state level order specifically encourages people to use parks, be outside, get exercise, etc, so long as social distancing is maintained. A back country ski trip checks all those boxes. Would people be freaking out if someone slipped and broke a leg taking a hike at a nearby state park and needed help? Would people suggest that an ambulance not help people that got in an car wreck on C470? Because it is all pretty analogous.
