The Younger Dryas Event was an intensely cold but brief period (@1300 years) that followed a warming period about 13000 years ago (ie, practically yesterday in geological terms). It is interesting mainly for its abrupt onset. Evidence strongly suggests that the transition from warm to near ice age conditions occurred in less than a decade, possibly in as little as two years.
