We’ll lose hostages, but the alternative is just more hostages to lose get captured. BTW, it was also reported these American hostages were in extra peril as Christian evangelists bringing bibles to their many destinations on an around the world 7 year voyage. The pirates have us by the balls to the extent of 600 + ordinary people being held. What awful cowards.

I think that has to be a consideration, but the problem is that until we hit the root causes (no other ways for people to earn a living, lack of a functioning government), piracy will continue as a symptom of deeper ills, regardless of how satisfying it would be to just drop bombs or troops.
