You’re kidding right? It was no secret what was going on- any regulator with his eyes closed could have seen what was taking place. The problem is that no one wanted to stop the gravy train. Not the Congress, not the President, not the regulators, not the banks, and not the buyers.

Go read “The Big Short” by Michael Lewis. There were average, ordinary people who simply reviewed the portfolio reports on these mortgage backed assets, bet against them all failing, and got rich because of it.

These weren’t experts or PhDs, they were mostly regular people with a computer.
