Republicans stick a defund Planned Parenthood amendment on the Senate bill to fund Zika research at a considerably lower level than the President requested, Democrats blocked the bill.

This might be part of the reason that the Republicans are arguing there should be no lame duck session: They want to play chicken with the Democrats over the zika bill (pass it now or else).

Zika is scary because the most rational measures, namely improved access to abortion and contraception for women at risk, are going to be fought tooth and nail by the GOP.
