The biggest issue I take with “true left policies” arguments is…there’s no way to really prove it. As the fight over the passage of the ACA proved, voters love “true left policies” as an abstract, love the idea of “fixing” America’s problems with “progressive” programs/policies. But as soon as you start acknowledging the costs of such, they balk and/or whine that they thought it was all going to be “free” and can’t understand why taxes/fees have to be paid.

I just explain that these policies will pay for themselves in increased productivity. Ask any GOPer if such a thing is possible.
