One of Hitler’s rationals for his expansionist policies was liberating the ethnic Germans “trapped” or “suppressed” in the other nation states in Post-World-War-I Europe. This has a lot to do with the very flexible, ethnocentric citizenship model that a lot of European states, especially Germany (to this day) cling to.
