So reading comprehension, analysis, critical thinking, ability to assess the meaning and reliability of any particular reading assignment… is not important in his world?

The students at this school will have absolute crap SAT scores, and if they get into college anyway won’t be able to write essays and construct arguments in their history, literature, IR, Econ or Poli Sci classes.

He most likely thinks that public school kids should be trained for warehouse jobs at Amazon or flipping burgers. Don’t muddle their minds. They need to read and do math just enough to provide services for Matt and his ilk.
