These demonstrations have an inherent defect.

Because they are spread out, turn out is limited and can be ignored.

In this country, the only demonstrations that gets noticed and may have consequences are mass demonstrations in Washington.

Get two million people to Washington and you’ve got something.

Frankly, I’ve never seen any protest produce any meaningful results. Ever. As Walter said, they’re a feel-good event for the participants. The supposed targets don’t give a rat’s ass. In the end, nothing is accomplished.

Well, that isn’t completely true. If enough people show up, it will attract the attention of corporate marketing departments, and somebody will start selling a shampoo and cereal targeted at the participants. But that’s the end of it.

If you want to accomplish something, toss fiscally irresponsible politicians out of office when the midterms roll around. In general, simply voting against any incumbent will accomplish this if enough people do it. But that’s the only thing that’s going to have any tangible impact.
