re: #94 Jay C

Nice thought, but I tend to doubt it: I’m guessing the best we can hope for these days, is, that after a change of Administration, we’ll get a Month of Good Feelings, at best (probably more-likely “Weeks”), and then the never-Trumpers can go back to their natural state: grumping about Democrats, and faux-alarmism about “the radical Left”.

Oh, and whatever Republicans are left in Congress and Statehouses are likely (IMO) to simply double down on the racism, fascism and Jesus; these are people who don’t take defeat well….

Projections are that Republicans stand to lose something like 600 state legislature seats across the country this year (as heard on the New Abnormal).

I could see a post Trump reckoning that leaves us with a three party system, at least temporarily. Some sort of populist/American version of Christian Democracy and some sort of suburban based centrist party (liberal on a lot of social issues, but still “skeptical” of spending). And if that happens, it could create a situation where more Democrats can win - assuming you don’t see progressives try and form their own party to the left of the Dems (the UK has shown us that first past the post systems don’t necessarily have to be two party systems). So we could end up with some sort of coalition government style caucuses in Congress.
