Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich predicted Sunday that he would take first place in the upcoming South Carolina primary.

“I’m probably gonna win next Saturday, because as a Georgia Reagan conservative I fit much more comfortably,” the former House Speaker told CBS host Bob Schieffer.

And then Saturday comes, Romney squeaks out another win, and Gingrich tries to make excuses for why he can’t even do that well in the South.

Give it up, Newt, you’re finished. You’ve been replaced by Rick Santorum. Go out with some little sliver of dignity left.
