From what I understand , one of the goals of gaslighting is to demonstrate that even if you know the truth, resistance is futile. It breaks down trust between people, which is the bedrock of human organizations. Often the word used to describe this is cynicism. Sara Kendzior has some good info on this on her Twitter Feed.

And as tiring as it can be, one of our goals has to be staying engaged and angry. It can be done, look at the tea party. We must always point out when they are BS-ing.
