In a way, I’d like to see Cantor get his little coup and then find out that being Speaker of the House is harder than it looks. It would be hilarious to see Cantor find out that actually doing the job rather than being a grandstanding prick and constant second guesser.

I think the new generation of Republicans just wants to be grandstanding kooks. There is money to be made via right wing talk show appearances, book deals, etc and they will be re-elected on local gerrymandered districts by playing up the right wing kook-dom. Cantor and the kooks know they are no longer a national party but a regional party that wins by blocking the Democrats and maybe by sneaking into power on some national overseas foreign policy emergency where the GOP can play up the militarist angle.
