This is true, it’s a norm for people who grew up before the impact of the ’60s and ’70s. I’m 67, I grew up in neighborhoods where bigotry toward African-Americans was breathed in with the air. I remain amazed and proud of my parents that I never heard a word of it from them, although they did object to my dating their friends’ daughter,* because “They’re not like us.” *They were Catholic.
