Well, there was considerble economic and emotional reasons as well. The Versailles Treaty pretty much took any idea of pride and integrity away from the Germans. You can’t do that to a people and expect them to just take it.

Yep, that’s true too. I’m just amazed at how they were able to go from fringe to in power that quickly. The resentments about Versailles were there early on but you’re right, the economic troubles played a big role in their comeback in the early 30’s. The most amazing thing I have read about is the SPD and maybe even the KPD urging its voters to support Hindenburg over Hitler. Two left wing parties urging support for a man who was very much symbolic of the old system before the first war.
