Naw, it’s a NBC news embargo. /
Seriously though, there was no reason to exclude Raisman’s name from reporting on the team event. In fact, she’s the women’s team captain and had the final scoring opportunity (last to go on the floor) as ESPN’s reporting indicated.
Media outlets seem to be looking for an angle, and theirs appears to be focusing on the fact that Wieber lost out b/c of a rule that allows only top 2 from each country to perform in the all-arounds - not on those who actually made it through to the finals. Controversy sells apparently, and the same extends to the swimming pool where there seems to be more ink devoted to Phelps losing to Lochte and then Lochte losing to the French (twice) than the successes elsewhere (Hey Missy Franklin from Aurora CO for instance). The US is doing quite well, even if the pre-Games narratives aren’t holding up nearly as well as the networks had hoped for.
Yet, there’s still time for Phelps or Lochte to add to their impressive career tallies.
Oh, and there’s a pair of Israelis, one of whom might make some history of their own in wind surfing by becoming the first to win at successive games.
