No, actually, the average IQ is exactly 100. That, in fact, is the definition of “average IQ.” If the average score begins to drift above or below 100, they recalibrate the scoring system so that the average is once again 100.

It’s impossible compare the average intelligence level from one era to another for this reason — and also because they keep changing the tests (to try to continually excise any lingering cultural bias).

Maybe the Democrats will raise everyone’s IQ score by 10 points as part of the stimulus package.
