Like the whole discussion of who was responsible for the mass executions in Katyn in Poland.

Which was like when two crackheads break into a house, murder the entire family and later start arguing about which one of them strangled grandma…

There’s a difference here, because one of those crackheads has been executed and is generally reviled, while the other one is praised in that city as an effective manager, so showing that he strangled the grandma (and other 100 or so grandmas) is important from the point of view of educating the public.
