There are racial issues, and middle schoolers have to deal with them. I don’t find the story improbable.

It’s the leap that takes you to ‘the best way to handle this is to teach your children to be snobby little racist assholes’ that I object to.

Friend of mine was once pistol-whipped in a robbery by a man who addressed her as ‘you n***** bitch’. She’s white, he was black. There’s a wealth of issues here, and a lot of fear that she had to get over.

You know what she hasn’t done? She hasn’t told her kids that black people are inherently scary and dangerous. Although she’s very clear that people with unregistered guns in their hands who walk into your place of employment just before closing are pretty much inherently scary and dangerous.
