I love the look I get from cashiers when I give them odd payment amounts. Initial sort of “crap - why are you handing me change in addition to the $20?”. And it is obviously not exact change for the amount as well. So they punch it into the cash register and it comes back as something like a $5 and three quarters. And then I get the look like I pulled off some sort of wizardry, sometimes mixed with the “you’re some kind of smartass, aren’t you?” expression.

You know what I really hate? Cashiers who give me the paper money first and then pile the change on top of it. I’m like, OK what am I supposed to do with this? It’s so inconvenient!

Back in the day when cashiers were taught the old method of making change they counted out the small coins first.
