They saw themselves as “victims” of Jewish Bolshevism, of international Jewish bankers who sold them out in WW1 (which they should have won) and stabbed them in the back, and of Jewish artists & intellectuals who were corrupting German morality and values.

To be fair I don’t think all did. The SS certainly did, but many Germans got carried by blind patriotism, and once the cogs of the war machine start turning, it’s hard to pull back, even if you want to.

Right now I’d bet that there are many in the US who feel buyer’s remorse about Trump, but they’re too emotionally invested in him and hate the other side too much to pull out. They’d rather die than admit they were wrong — and if it continues, many will.
