I’m going to post a longer piece later detailing my thoughts on the election, but here’s a small sample:
I do not like the Presidential elections being held at a fixed time every 4 years. As a result, politicians are nearly in constant campaigning mode and not focused on the real issues facing the country.
Election cycles are too long. In Canada there is no law assigning a maximum for the length of time a campaign can run, but consider this: The longest recorded election campaign in Canadian history was only 74 days. No, that is NOT a typo.
Also, I’m very much in support of ditching the primaries system and finding a better way to nominate candidates for the general election.
