Just in case anyone needs the facts, the Red Cross life guard test requires you to swim 300 yards continuously (any stroke, just can’t stop) and also to be able swim out 20 yards, dive down in 10 feet of water and retrieve a 10 pound object and to get that object and yourself out of the pool without using the side ladder.

Trust me if you can pass this you are a good enough swimmer to be a lifeguard.

Unless it’s changed from when I was a life-guard there are a few other tests, but none of them require the ability to use a starting block, sprint to one side of the pool, flip-turn, and sprint back using one of four constrained strokes.

Agreed, if you pass the test you’re a good enough swimmer to be a lifeguard.
