re: #112 Fairly Sure I’m Still Obdicut

This is a purely social construct, and I don’t think it’s necessarily true even in the US.

You’re making a lot of broad statements about men and women, but it’s a lot more complex than that and it’s a lot more culturally bound than it is actually to do with gender.

Another thing, and I’ll probably get into trouble saying this, also. But women tend to be more protective of their sexuality because of our biology. Our sexuality is, regardless of the social constructs (as you like to say) around it, geared toward reproduction as its primary function. And mothers are protective, not just of their offspring, but of their own sexuality and the need to determine for themselves the paternity of their offspring. Birth control has changed that almost totally for women, of course, but it hasn’t totally changed our mindset about our sexuality and being protective of it. We allow our brains to determine quite a bit about our sexuality these days, and it’s not all of our own doing as women but part of the larger social milieu.

We don’t like to think of ourselves as animals, but we are, our biological functions are. But we also are sentient and much more complicated than simply animals that mate. And that’s where we get into a lot of trouble.
