When the government speaks of “equality” they mean that every person deserves an equal chance at certain basic rights. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. There are a lot of things included in that, but of the most important are a fair wage to support your family and not to be discriminated against because of gender, religion or skin color.

We are not equal, of course. Some are richer, some are poorer, but if 10 people are applying for a job and those 10 people are equally qualified each of them should have the same chance despite the fact that some may be Jews or Blacks or Asians or something other than white males.

That is changing and it’s getting better, but historically, it’s been a big problem.

Historically, people have been their own worst problem… bluuuuuccchhhh.
