Actually, they do. If he sinks over the next two weeks, the delegates can refuse to vote for him at the convention and they can anoint someone else as candidate. It wouldn’t win the presidency, but it might save a lot of down-ticket races if the GOP simply said, “We fucked up! Romney would make a terrible president!”

Yeah, but who would be willing to take that nomination if the delegates stripped it from Romney? Anyone who actually wants to run their own campaign for the White House in 2016 would refuse just so they wouldn’t be a loser now.

The only people stupid enough to take that anointing would be Crazy Uncle Liberty and Caribou Barbie, and she’s not even invited to the RNC.
