I remember Miss Lucy, my kindergarten teacher, talking about how oil was a finite resource and that we needed to find other sources of energy to maintain our way of life because we were on an unsustainable course.
This was in 1957. A kindergarten teacher in Enid, OK.
That would sort of make sense in an oil-producing region that was already starting to suffer from depletion. The local effects would be incredibly obvious.
