Animals are animals. They suffer regardless of whether they are wild or domesticated, furry and cute or slimy and cold. Cats and dogs are no better or worse than mice, squirrels, deer or cows.

That’s not really accurate, there is differing levels of self awareness and intelligence in animals, they’re not all the same. The closer to human intelligence and the more self aware they are the greater the difficulty I have in viewing them as food.
