There are a couple of books about being a woman in SA- The Princess Trilogy and Carmen Bin Laden’s book (osama’s sister-in-law). Both are quite appalling.

The book Infidel, about life as a woman in Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, and Kenya, by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, was an eye-opener for me.
