They often do, but the problem is that Trump and his administration also need to be pressed in real time. So that we can see the shifting discomfort, the desperate flailing and the faux-righteous anger at having their flagrant lies proven false right to their faces.
For an on-air interview, absolutely. They can ‘t walk away from that as easily. I think in a print interview a non-confrontational approach can perhaps be more revealing just by letting them talk… and talk… and talk. They do tend to drop bombs when they feel comfy.
