I wonder if the national GOP has any idea how much damage the state GOPs are doing right now? Especially, in states that matter like OH, MI, WI, PA and FL.

I don’t think it will hit them until someone tries to keep Obama off the ballot in 2012 over his birth certificate. As soon as that happens, whoever the nominee is will have it firmly tied as an albatross around their neck, even if they push back against it.
