I disagree. The Cold War in the sense of a worldwide ideological struggle, is dead and buried.

Putin, however, is out to re-establish the Russian Empire, i.e., to bring all the former Soviet Republics back into Russia’s direct or indirect political/economic control.

There is a degree of overlap, but it is a different focus, and using the term “New Cold War” is something I find misleading.

You define the ideologies differently. The war was and is the deathstruggle between those who believe the masses of people must be trusted and those who believe the people as a whole cannot be trusted. The war continues, and the battles on our own soil have intensified.
