I never got why with so many awesome things to celebrate in white culture— the Enlightenment, Shakespeare, the cathedrals of Europe, the cure for polio, etc. etc.— a lot of people just want to celebrate the time when a bunch of white guys went to war because they wanted to keep owning black people as slaves forever.
