I taught in a small GA town for over 30 years, and you’re right. Kids in small towns do the same things kids in large cities do. They get drunk, commit suicide [unfortunately,] have abortions, bully their classmates, commit crimes, get sent to jail and prison as teens, get pregnant out of wedlock, etc. NPR had a report a few years ago about a mid-sized town in GA in which there was a high rate of venereal disease. The investigation revealed that kids were having sex parties after school and on weekends. The parents and town officials described the town’s residents as being very conservative. Sometimes parents don’t know what their kids are doing when they’re not in their presence. Brock Turner’s parents blame him moving from the Midwest to CA on his behavior. Lots of kids move away from home to attend college and most of them are never involved in incidents like the one Brock Turner was involved in.
