Corroboration by independent sources is the standard. So far, there isn’t any, even from those sources most likely to have their finger on the pulse of such stories.

Also, it’s typically the responsibility of the party making a claim to provide proof of the claim. In this case, that would involve providing named sources and other information that would allow independent verification. Such sourcing is the bread and butter of journalists everywhere, and it is conspicuously absent here.
