Seriously, though, give credit where it is due. The physical device was expensive to develop, but cheap to produce. Sure, anybody could have put that collection of sensors together and sold it, but it wouldn’t have been for 150 bucks. It would have been a lot more.

What’s funny to me is that they develop a device with that kind of potential, and then market it as a toy. It has VASTLY more potential than that, as a small army of hackers is demonstrating.

Never underestimate graduate students and unemployed/bored programmers. They can do shit in their free time, for fun, that massive companies can’t. They can think outside the box.
