But I have to say it really grates me when Jeb says his brother kept the country safe when the 9/11 attacks happened on W’s watch and Jeb knows full well what wold happened if Clinton or Obama had been president when those happened. I don’t blame Bush for 9/11 but at the same time, I don’t think he should get the pass that Jeb gives him either.

Thank you, you put it very well and summed up my feelings on the matter.

The only thing I’d add is that while I agree George W. Bush shouldn’t get the pass Jeb Bush gives him, I fault Jeb only slightly for giving said pass. Jeb’s giving that pass is a very human, and almost universal bit of family loyalty. A man will excuse and defend his brother for actions for which he would react in rage had they been done by a stranger.

And that’s also why Trump’s attack may not work: Because Jeb Bush would rather be a good and loyal brother than president, and I think more people will be sympathetic to Jeb than Trump thinks. Those people might still vote for someone else, but Donald Trump won’t be that somebody.
