I have never understood this “reaching across the aisle” nonsense.

Easy.

When the Republicans are in the majority, it means that the Republicans must still appoint some Dems to committee chairs, share power, and only vote in laws that are compromises between the two viewpoints.

When the Dems are in the majority, it means that the Republicans must go along with all the Dem ideas and not filibuster or otherwise impede the 100% Dem agenda.
