Anyway found myself learning an old tool. The following image without a ND filter would have a totally blown out sky to keep the beach from going too dark. By combining a neutral density filter and polarizer I got this result.

I’d recommend getting a graduated ND filter like this. It allows you to be much more selective and will give more control over the scene.
