Here is the interview of the Mayor of Buffalo from the Friday Rachel Maddow show.
The comment he made regarding why the entire membership of the ERT resigned starts at about 10:45 on the tape. It has been followed Saturday by some more substantive articles.

(My own take on the general tones of the interview were that Rachel Maddow went out of her way to be supportive to the Mayor. The Mayor, however, was stuck between not alienating as much of his constituency as he could, while outing those he felt were the bad actors. And was not slick enough to thread the needle between them.)

The mayor seems to mention it for a second, but it’s not totally clear if there was an element of protest or support involved still, or if was completely union fuckery. So we really don’t know yet. Unless those officers specifically made a claim elsewhere that I’m not finding.
