Even the author’s claim that Trumpism isn’t Nazism because, among other differences, “Hitler was an open and ideological opponent of the idea of democracy, whereas neither Trump nor the GOP wants to abolish elections.” doesn’t seem particularly persuasive or comforting.

Open dictatorships are passe. What Trump is looking at is called a “competitive autocracy” like Putin, Orban, Erdogan, Maduro, et. al.
