re: #120 freetoken
That sounds like the standard corporate raider.
While I don’t like them, I accept that they serve a purpose in our economy. IOW, many businesses have been either poorly run, or the owners are not personally (time/emotion) involved enough to want to protect their company/employees. So outsiders come in, take over a business from the originators/previous owners, and cash out the assets and dump the “weight” (i.e., employees.)
Cold hearted and ruthless. But our society allows it.
I’m sorry, I don’t think they “serve a purpose in our economy.” I think they’re crooks and scum who’ve managed to block passage of laws (and enforcement of those that do get passed) for their own benefit.
Specific example: the laws that are supposed to put retirement funds off-limits. Instead it’s one of the assets that get stripped. Joe Worker put 5% of his paycheck into the retirement fund and gets bupkis, while Gekko gets 99% of it after putting nothing in - after leveraging his way in with pennies holding dollars.
I have hopes that Mitt will cause some unhappiness merely being who he is.
