What disgusted me about the AK - I guess that’s the right word, “disgusted” - was that the design philosophy behind it was so nakedly on display. Kalashnikov didn’t even try to frill it up even a little bit. It is very clearly just a junky, brutal automatic hammer meant to be fired at close range targets by undernourished 5’5” commies with middle school educations. I always felt kinda dirty shooting one. ARs at least look like they were designed by civilized people! :) Of course later on it received better treatment by the Israelis and the Finns and even the Russians themselves, but at its parkerized Carpathian worst, it is just a rotten, ugly piece of work.
