Going to a memorial service in an hour or so, for one of my neighbors.

A week ago, we passed each other in our cars on the road, stopped and chatted a bit about a loose dog we saw, trying to figure out where he “belonged” so we could get him back home.

Day before yesterday, her husband sees my husband outside, and tells him that he’s on his way home from the hospital, his wife just died, very suddenly and unexpectedly, complications of pneumonia.

She was 53, 4 years younger than I am.

I have to tell y’all this has me a bit disconcerted. How can a healthy 53-year-old get sick and die in the hospital all within a few days? Am I next?
What happened?

Has been an upsetting couple of days.

I can imagine how you feel, but that does happen. Thankfully, not often, so just live your life well and take good care of yourself.
