Going back and remembering the Niven and Pournelle books, I think Pournelle had an unhealthy influence on them. I suspect Pournelle had the usual wingnut axes to grind - journalists, liberals, feminists, anybody not white - and always manages to make them into the enemy. Or AN enemy.

Remember “Fallen Angels” with it’s hatred for anyone believing in global warming?
