Among other books I read to my kids, I read the Hobbit + LOTR to my oldest, His Dark Materials to the middle one, and all of the Hitchhikers books to my youngest.

Wait, are they finally working on a follow-up to The Golden Compass?

I recall that movie did not play well, probably because of serious fantasy oversaturation on the market and a lot of opposition from Christians who was the message as anti-religious (which it is, of course)
