I think that’s part of it, but the cynic in me (or rather, the cynic that is me) says it’s more likely Newt first getting cheered on while he beat on Juan Williams during Monday’s debate, then topping that off by beating on John King on Thursday’s.

I chalk a lot of Newt’s apparent resurgence in SC to all of the above, but don’t forget a couple of very important things.

Newt’s a Southern boy (by way of GA), so this is his real home turf. Also, the more derpity people here in the South (the types that see the Civil War as the “War of Northern Aggression”) tend not to look at Northerners (which Mitt is) too favorable to begin with; I have no doubt some are calling Mitt a “carpetbagger” or worse.
