A great amount of what remains of what once was in the physical world “newspapers” has become the republishing of low-cost editorial content that is widely available.

There is an ideological factor in play as well (although this is not a complete explanation of the decay of the news industry).

Climate change and wealth concentration are the two 800 pound gorillas in terms of long term news stories, but the powers that be that own the media by and large aren’t interested in any coverage thereof.
