I used to use strip-eeze but there are some newer products out there that are easier on the wood.

Best material out there - Methylene chloride. It’ll take 8 layers of varnish on top of two layers of lacquer off a table in minutes flat, and still have enough oomph! left to raise blisters on your skin.
