Nobody ‘rolled over’. Both sides gave up something they wanted in exchange for getting something else they wanted more. The final agreement lets neither party call out “Victory!” but rather allows them to both same “We made a good deal and got what we needed.” That is the essence of compromise in divided government.

Yeah, the Repubs gave up the socon riders that amounted to pocket change and get $39 billion in budget cuts in return. Where I come from, that’s one hell of a good deal.
